My MUSE | Anna Thomson

Hello everyone,

Michele here, introducing you to this week’s MyMUSE: the truly inspiring, ever-gracious, and effortlessly stylish Anna Thomson.

Originally from Dunedin, Anna is a super mum of four boys, and anyone who’s had the pleasure of meeting her can attest to the fact that she’s nothing short of a force of nature. Despite the daily chaos of raising young children, Anna manages to juggle it all with a warm, calm presence that makes it all seem effortless.

While being a stay-at-home mum is Anna’s primary role, it’s clear that she’s a woman who loves life and keeps it simple, especially when it comes to her wardrobe. With a natural love for fashion, she knows how to mix comfort and style, always looking chic yet effortless. As much as she enjoys clothes and fashion, she is also practical and has mastered the art of pared-back dressing, which is just perfect for her busy life at home.

When she’s not busy running the household, Anna treasures her small windows of downtime, spending time with friends for a much-needed laugh or booking in some well-deserved self-care. Her warmth, kindness, and ability to find joy in the little things make her not just a role model for other mums, but a true beacon of positivity and love.

I sat down with Anna to chat about life as a supermum, how she finds balance, and how she defines her unique sense of fashion.

You’re a busy mum of four boys, managing a home that’s full of love and activity. Can you walk us through a typical day in your life?

I try to stagger getting the kids up in the morning to avoid everyone needing me at once. It’s a bit of a military regime getting everyone out the door where they need to be but we manage it by 7.30 most days. I spend my days with my youngest and voice messaging my daily trials and tribulations to the gals. Make food/do laundry/all the mental load things. Then pick up, survive until dinner/bed/bath then we get up and do it all again!

Taking care of your family is a full-time job, how do you make sure to carve out time for yourself? Do you have any rituals or tips that help you stay grounded?

I wouldn’t say I get much time to myself, it’s just not the season and I really do enjoy this season I’m in. If I do manage to get some alone time I make sure I do something that you simply couldn't do with kids like a massage. Or take myself to a cafe and order something that I can’t make myself at home. Skincare would be a daily ritual I enjoy, and the WhatsApp chat keeps me grounded. I wish I could tell you I read lots of books but in reality I watch lots of reels.

Becoming a mum often brings about a shift in how we approach our personal style. How has your style evolved since having children, and what are the key pieces or foundations you rely on for daily dressing?

Clothing is now about how well it washes, how little it creases, and how undesirable it is for little grubby hands to touch. In saying that I do love having pieces that make me feel part of the latest trends, to compensate for not physically feeling part of society being home a lot. I love any fabric that feels amazing on the skin like silk and cashmere, but it's usually denim or nylon to fit into my lifestyle. I know how I look is the most uninteresting thing about myself, but an outfit really can make me feel good.

We know you’re a fan of a great pair of jeans, what makes the perfect pair for you? Is there a particular fit, fabric, or style that you always find yourself gravitating toward?

Anything Tibi - they’re so versatile. With fluctuating size in motherhood, I love that they can be worn high waisted, and also look great low waisted and slouchy.

If you had to sum up your personal style in four words, what would they be?

Practical, comfy, timeless, fun.

What’s the most recent fashion purchase you’re loving right now? What made it stand out from everything else you’ve seen?

The Tibi Double Waisted Slouchy Carpenter Jean. It’s a piece that you don’t know if you love or hate but can’t stop thinking about them so must be love?! The unique waistband looks soo good with any top.

And finally, what current Muse pieces are on your wish-list?

FARM Rio sets can make even the most sleep deprived person look somewhat together for the day. And cannot go wrong with Maggie Marilyn, all their cuts are flawless and we love supporting a NZ brand.
