My MUSE | Rachel Sloane

Hello everyone,

Olivia here, introducing you to this week’s MyMUSE: the inspiring, elegant, and endlessly chic Rachel Sloane.

After meeting her partner, Alex Bunnett, Rachel co-founded the incredible jewellery brand Naveya & Sloane in 2010. Since then, the business has blossomed into a hugely successful jewellery house, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and artistry. Their design philosophy is a blend of old and new, with "a pinch of playfulness."

A romantic at heart, Rachel combines her laser-sharp focus and work ethic with boundless creativity to craft pieces destined to be cherished for generations. More than just a business model, Rachel deeply believes in her work and remains true to her vision.

In more recent years, Rachel has become a mother to two beautiful girls—a role that is incredibly dear to her heart. The way she balances running a business with being a devoted mother only adds to the reasons we are so fortunate to have her as part of our MUSE community.

On a more personal note, Rachel and her team have a special place in my heart, as my own engagement ring and wedding band were designed and crafted by Naveya & Sloane. It goes without saying that they are my most treasured pieces, making this installment of MyMUSE even more special.

I sat down with Rachel to discuss her business journey, what inspires her, and how she manages it all with such grace.

Naveya and Sloane has been a part of your life since 2010. Can you share what the journey has been like and some key moments that have shaped your brand?

It’s been quite the adventure since Alex and I launched Naveya and Sloane. Every day feels like a gift as we help people create heirlooms that will be enjoyed across generations. A couple of key moments really stand out: our first bespoke commission was a real turning point.

We were so honoured when a customer chose us for their engagement ring. It was a big deal, and it showed us how much we loved the design process and more of a personalised service as opposed to wholesale, that we were focusing on at the time. Opening our sunny showroom in downtown Auckland was another highlight. Seeing our brand come to life in an inspiring space we could call home was really pivotal.

With over a decade in the industry, you must have seen countless trends come and go. What are some of the latest jewellery trends you’re excited about?

Absolutely, trends are always evolving, but we’ve stayed true to our design ethos, focusing on timeless pieces that have longevity through design & craftsmanship. That said, I’m really excited about some of the current trends. Bold gold statement rings, East x West set diamonds, and chunky layering chains are particularly catching my eye right now.

Has your personal style evolved over the years? If so, how would you describe your current style?

Yes, my style has definitely evolved. These days, I’m drawn to timeless pieces, though I like to keep things fresh and modern. I’m a big fan of a classic white shirt and blue jeans look, with a preference for neutral tones. I like my style to be understated yet chic. Victoria Beckham’s elegance has always inspired me, and I love exploring her designs at Muse!

As a mum of two gorgeous girls, how do you balance work and family life?

Balancing work and family can be challenging, but I try to focus on what’s most important and avoid getting sidetracked. Alex is an amazing dad and takes on a lot when I need to dive into work. We’re a strong team and have great family support. I make it a point to cherish the simple moments with my kids and appreciate the true luxury of spending time with loved ones, especially being outside under the sun together - picnics, beach days etc.

What are your top tips for accessorising an outfit with jewellery? How do you ensure your jewellery compliments your look perfectly?

Keep it simple and chic. Jewellery can be the perfect finishing touch for any outfit. For a classic look like a white tee or crisp shirt, a chunky gold chain or bracelet can add a pop of gold to elevate the look. For more patterned or colourful outfits, a touch of sparkle, like a diamond pendant or studs, works well. Choose high-quality pieces that will always look great for years to come and can easily transition from day to night, like our Sloane Slippers—effortless and elegant.

Where do you draw inspiration for your designs? Are there specific sources or experiences that particularly spark your creativity?

I find inspiration everywhere, but I'm definitely drawn to simple everyday moments and sensory experiences. Often important moments of inspiration that spark a significant emotion happen when I'm out under the sun and in nature. There’s something about the warmth of the sun that brings everything to life & illuminates the soul. Music plays a huge part of my creative process & I adore architecture, art, artists and travel.

What’s currently at the top of your MUSE wishlist?

Oh, there are so many things I’m eyeing up! I’m really into the Rodebjer Emera Blouse, the Sini Pant (also Rodebjer) and the Bernadette Claire Dress, which I wore for our shoot! I also adore your Soft Goat cashmere sweaters and am completely obsessed with all things Magda Butrym.
